It was announced on the 23rd of November, as part of the Reading and Leeds Festival line-up release that Catfish and the Bottlemen would, in fact, be making their comeback as a headliner at one of Britain's biggest festivals in 2024. The Indie Rock band, formed in Llandudno, Wales in 2007 are set to play their joyful, recognisable, and memorable tunes once more. There are going to be thousands of people ecstatic for Catfish’s long-awaited return to the stage, including me – I didn’t think Twice before buying a ticket to Reading Festival this year to sing their songs again! Will I see you there?
In honour of Catfish and the Bottlemen making their come-back at Reading & Leeds Festival in 2024, after being away from the music scene for what felt like a lifetime, I wanted to share my Top 3 singles from their Album, ‘Balcony’ (which is my favourite, what is yours?)
Lets go! Starting with…
3rd Place – Song: Hourglass, Sweet, Short and SimpleHourglass is a nice sandwich; hear me out – You’ve got a gentle acoustic start which slowly builds up, with perfect harmonies to please the ear in the middle, everything calms down towards the close, and it brings us back to a minimal end, almost copying the start.Lyrically, I think it’s about wanting someone you can’t have or need to wait for. Desperately craving a long, loving life with them physically and emotionally… we’ve all been there right?
2nd Place – Song: Kathleen, A Bop & A Song to ShoutIt’s a song about being driven mad because you have so much admiration for someone…or are infatuated by them. This is a bop from the start! Music you can dance to and lyrics you can shout back. dom, dom, dom, dom, dom ‘I GOTTA GIVE IT TO YOU, YOU GIVE ME PROBLEMS’– it’s one to scream back at them if you ever have the privilege to see Catfish live, hear them on the radio or Spotify.
1st Place – Song: Cocoon, Musical PerfectionStraight in with a bang; my favourite chorus to sing and song to dance to. The story-telling in this is impeccable, as well as the underlying motive. Musically, this is what I wrote whilst re-listening to it for the 1000th time: Drums – yesss, guitar melody, vocals, all come together beautifully. You can feel the emotion behind his voice. The tempo and feel of the single stays pretty much the same throughout. It’s fantastic to listen to live, I cannot wait to see them at Reading next year!
Cocoon, Kathleen and Hourglass are my personal Top 3. But what are yours? Have you ever listened to Catfish and the Bottlemen before? Will you start?Am I right, am I wrong?Don’t Cocoon, let me know what you think, let's have a Conversation!
P.S. I’m hoping this Festival Headline will introduce a tour and album - or is that too hopeful?
